Dream Girl: A laughter riot
This is a movie review of Ayushmann Khurrana starrer “Dream Girl” which was released on 13th September.
Ayushmann Khurrana starrer movie Dream Girl was released on 13th September. Seventeen days after its release, the movie has continued its dream run on box office collecting 120+ crores. And its lifetime collection is ~140+ crores. Just like Ayushman’s other movies, this one has not disappointed the fans and Ayushmann has delivered another great masterpiece from his bag of tricks and with his unique acting.
Comedy, comedy and more comedy!
The movie is a laughter riot. The movie packs so many punches and that too at great timings. It’s important to note the significant contribution of the supporting cast in supplementing Ayushman’s character throughout the movie and keep the audience laughing. Veteran actors Annu Kapoor and Vijay Raaz have nailed their roles as Ayushman’s dad and a shayar Policeman respectively. Both of them have been marvelous at playing their characters and not once does it feels that they are actors who are playing the role in this movie. Their character feels real along with their acting. Annu Kapoor’s character is the key piece to the movie that keeps the laughter tone alive throughout with many punches centered around him.
I cannot remember when was the last time the audience laughed so much in a movie hall. Having said that, it's important to note that the above statement is subjective and depends on other factors also, especially the setting when you are watching the movie. If the setting is right, then you will be able to enjoy the movie to the max. The theatrical release of a comedy movie is just like a comedy show where the spotlight is on the comedian and its very important for the audience to accept the comedian for the comedy show to be successful. Similarly, in this case, it’s important that the surrounding crowd creates an atmosphere ambient for everyone to laugh freely. It must have something to do with human psychology. For example, when people go to a good restaurant, they are very conscious of their actions and try to maintain a good social image for the duration of their meal. Even when they might not ever see any of the people present in the restaurant again in their life. Similarly, we humans become conscious of the people sitting around us when a joke comes in the movie and a natural tendency is to suppress our laughter with the exception of people with bold personalities, who are able to express themselves freely. This happens even though the lights are all off and you cannot see each other's faces. So, next time you go into a movie, try to forget that anyone is sitting beside you and laugh if you want to rather than suppressing it.
What’s special about the movie?
The movie doesn’t just offers laughter punches but much more. The movie packs the story of setting up a relationship between a boy and a girl, continuing through it, with ups and down in it.
The movie packs a strong social message towards the ending of the movie. The story of the movie goes something like this: There are multiple characters introduced in the movie and they all want someone to talk to, share their feelings with them. And to solve it, enters “Pooja” aka Ayushmann Khuranna in a sexy girl’s voice through a call center. The different characters all fall in love with the imaginary Pooja and want to meet her in real life, which triggers a chain of connected events involving Ayushmann.
What’s best about the movie is that it ends by giving a social message. That all of us in today’s world are very lonely by being confined to our mobile phones and a phony social life on the internet.
In fact, many of us do not have anyone to talk to, to share our feelings. hence, we should look around us to lend an ear to people around us. Anyone can be a Pooja to a person; his dad, mom, brother, sister, teacher, hair-dresser or the milkman. We should look around and we should try to find the Pooja in our lives that we can really talk to, and confide in.
Should you watch it? Absolutely yes!
In spite of all the things that a good Bollywood movie offers, it also packs a strong social message which is weaved around the entire script of the movie. Because of this very well amalgamated mixture of a lot of things, its a must-watch!
